Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC) announced that its Auburn, CA manufacturing site was recently selected as FEI Company’s 2010 Supplier of the Year for Quality. Hillsboro, Oregon-based FEI is a worldwide leader in electron microscopy products. MTC supplies insulating ceramics made from high purity alumina for columns within scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes, and dual beam microscopes, as well as metalized alumina used in feedthroughs. The materials are prized for their ability to insulate and isolate electrical currents running through the instruments.

“We have collaborated closely with FEI for more than 20 years and are pleased to be selected for this significant honor,” said Marc Fichou, the Auburn site’s general manager. “This achievement was made possible by our entire team’s dedication, commitment to quality and, above all, to the Auburn site’s expertise in designing for manufacture.”

FEI’s suppliers are rated for quality, logistics, service level, cost and financial risk. MTC Auburn received the highest grade of all suppliers in terms of total quality, which measured lost hours, lost quality, corrective action and number of rejected parts.

“Our quality achievements are closely linked to our skill in designing for manufacture, which is one of MTC Auburn’s distinctive competencies,” said Fichou. “We have a close relationship with FEI and have worked collaboratively to make sure their parts are manufactured cost effectively. Our design engineers are particularly skilled at suggesting ways to manufacture parts within budget and to specifications, which has a direct result in our ability to achieve the high quality FEI demands.”
